haiku ra lurra lurra is a book of poems, some haiku, some not haiku, some...somewhere in between. they all hope to sing like better haikus. They have been written over many years but are now gathered here. Here are two poems:
thick scent of peonies, wilting, loaded
with rain.
magenta peonies
with rain.
wind only bobbles them
like
an elder who can't lift her chin
but tries.
out in winter
(just like my father and
the cold buick rivera
older than me by a month)
to look at snowflakes on the old car hood
jutting out of the garage;
the saws, the wooden horses in the rafters, the bikes
all cold.
our fingers cringe as we
pass the magnifying glass without a handle:
just the two of us alone.
and gaze on the wind-grown statues of
water and air, holding our breaths
lest a flake puddle into a tear on
the silvery paint and chrome.
like
an elder who can't lift her chin
but tries.

they sold the old car to a jerk of a kid
I know it’s been said before but
I wanted to take my son and daughterout in winter
(just like my father and
the cold buick rivera
older than me by a month)
to look at snowflakes on the old car hood
jutting out of the garage;
the saws, the wooden horses in the rafters, the bikes
all cold.
our fingers cringe as we
pass the magnifying glass without a handle:
just the two of us alone.
and gaze on the wind-grown statues of
water and air, holding our breaths
lest a flake puddle into a tear on
the silvery paint and chrome.
